In February 2003, Montenegro and Serbia were the only two remaining republics of rump Yugoslavia. All the others became independent in the 1990's. In 2006, Montenegro split from Serbia.  It is a country of a fiercely independent people who live in scenic mountains and on a short, scenic coastline.

Thomas Joseph Gerleman was born on 19 Mar 1923 in Helena, Lewis & Clark Co., Montana and died on 17 Mar 1999 in Bozeman, Gallatin Co., Montana at age 75.

On 25 May 1943, he was inducted in Butte. Pvt. Thomas J. Gerleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Gerleman was promoted to the rank of private first class. He was assigned to the army air forces training command at Sioux Falls, for training as radio operator mechanics. [Helena Independent, Sept. 4, 1943]

PFC Thomas J. Gerleman of 1023 Eighth Avenue qualified with the pistol and was authorized to wear the marksman badge as a result of his accuracy on the firing range at Scott Field, Ill., parent radio school of the army air forces traning command, wehre he is now stationed. [The Independent-Record, June 19, 1944]. He was next stationed at Sioux Falls to the Army Air Forces for training as a radio operator mechanic. He was discharged from the Army on 14 Feb. 1946.

Thomas married Drinka Bosovich. Drinka was born in 1923, died on 30 Sep 1964 in Gallatin Co., Montana at age 41, and was buried in Bozeman.

They had two children: Victor Lee and Patrick James:

  1. Victor Lee Gerleman was born on 1 Dec 1942 in Idaho. Victor legally changed his name to Gerleman although not a biological child of Thomas Joseph Gerleman. Victor married Mimi Sfiropulu on 2 May 1965.

     

  2. Patrick James Gerleman was born on 20 Nov 1944. He legally changed his name to Gerleman although not a biological child of Thomas Joseph Gerleman. He attended Montana State College. Patrick married Bonnie Jean Straiton on 16 Aug 1964. They had two children: James Patrick and Kathleen Lynn. James Patrick Gerleman was born on 6 Feb 1969.  Kathleen Lynn Gerleman was born on 13 Apr.

Thomas next married Mardee Joann Clark on 23 Jun 1965, daughter of Unknown and Verle Todd. Mardee was born on 18 May 1935 in Butte, Silver Bow Co., Montana and died on 13 Feb 1989 in Bozeman at age 53.  They were both cremated and their ashes spread at Princeton, Montana.

They had two children: Susan Lynn and Linda Marie:

  1. Susan Lynn Gerleman was born on 17 Feb 1966 in Bozeman. Susan married Daniel Charles Spaulding on 3 May 1986 in Bozeman, son of David Austin Spaulding and Florence Tertelgte. Daniel was born on 15 Jun 1964 in Bozeman, Gallatin Co., Montana. They had two children: Thomas Joseph and Kandace Mardee. The marriage ended in divorce.  Thomas Joseph Spaulding was born on 11 Nov 1986.  Kandace Mardee Spaulding was born on 1 Aug 1988.  Susan next married Norman Joseph Marquez on 26 Dec 1991 in Reno. Susan next married James Rinehart. The marriage ended in divorce.
     

  2. Linda Marie Gerleman was born on 27 Mar 1967. She is a Graphic Artist for a local print shop. She has no children. Linda married Donald Ray Bartram II on 9 Apr 1988 in Bozeman. The marriage ended in divorce.
